"Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." – Proverbs 30:5-6

God’s Word is flawless and completely reliable. Yet, many struggle to fully trust in its truth, sometimes adding personal interpretations that distort its original meaning. In Proverbs 30:5-6, we are reminded of the purity of God’s Word and the dangers of altering it to fit our desires.

The Purity of God’s Word

The phrase "Every word of God is pure" reassures us that Scripture is:

  • Flawless: God’s Word is free from error or corruption.

  • Trustworthy: It serves as a foundation for wisdom and faith.

  • A Shield: Those who trust in it find protection and strength.

The Danger of Adding to God’s Word

  • Many attempt to reinterpret or modify Scripture to align with personal beliefs or cultural trends.

  • This verse warns that altering God’s truth leads to correction and exposure as falsehood.

  • True faith requires humility, submitting to God’s unchanging Word rather than shaping it to fit our own narratives.

Why Do People Struggle to Trust God’s Word?

  1. Pride – Believing we know better than Scripture.

  2. Doubt – Questioning its relevance or sufficiency.

  3. Fear – Worrying that obedience will demand too much change.

How to Cultivate Trust and Humility

  • Study Scripture Regularly – Strengthen your faith through consistent reading.

  • Pray for Wisdom – Ask God for discernment and a teachable heart.

  • Obey Without Hesitation – Act in faith, even when His commands challenge you.

Biblical Examples of Trusting God’s Word

  • Jesus in the Wilderness (Matthew 4:4) – Resisted temptation by relying on Scripture.

  • The Bereans (Acts 17:11) – Studied the Word daily to verify truth.

Are You Trusting God’s Word Completely?

Take a moment to examine your heart. Are you fully trusting in God’s Word, or are you adding personal interpretations? Pray for a heart that relies completely on His truth.
